Shenyang Cave (Lava Tunnel)
Lava
tunnel was formed when the lava flow surface cooled down while the underlying liquid lava still remained underflow. In the late period
of lava flowing, the underlying lava would drain away and further forming lava tunnel
(cave) in the solidified lava flow. The tunnel roof often collapsed due to
cracks formed in lava solidification, thus the landscape like “skylight” was
formed. The lava tunnel here gets the name of Shenyang (sheep) Cave because the
collapsed rock vividly resembles a sheep.
