Geneses of Jingpo Lake, Diaoshuilou Waterfalls and Heilong Pool
When
a volcano lying tens of kilometers away from the
west of Jingpo Lake erupted, the turbulent and hot lava flow run
eastward into Mudan River along the valley and blocked the Mudan River channel like a dam, which made the water level rise and
the water acreage enlarge, thus led to formation of the
largest volcanic dammed lake in our
country – Jingpo Lake. The surface of rushing and
rolling lava flow rapidly cooled down and solidified to hard crust, while the
lava within the crust still remains underflow forward in the form of liquid.
When no subsequent lava supplied, the flowing lava
beneath the hardened surface would gradually drain off, so that a cave-like tunnel
was formed in the lava interior, such as lava tunnel. The lava tunnel tends to collapse due to the cracks on the
roof formed in cooling and solidification. Here is the landscape caused
by the collapsing of large lava tunnel. The water
of Jingpo Lake flows over the cliff where the
lava tunnel collapsed, and formed the largest basalt
waterfall in the world – Diaoshuilou Waterfalls. The plunging
water gathers at the collapsing place, and forms the rough
Heilong Pool.
